Wood Projects
My brother came to me and we discussed making a wood chess set. Since I worked for a cabinet shop I was able to get permission to have access to shop saws which made making the chess pieces rather easy. The white pieces are made from maple and the dark pieces are made from walnut. Once the pieces were cut out and sanded I made a box to

hold them. Then Picture on the right shows how they all fit in the box. My brother found a worn out game table. The original table had a chess board on it but the squares were too small. I took out the old board and replaced it square by square with a new maple and walnut board. My brother then used it as a sign in table at his wedding.
I decided I was going to carve a ring. As I dated my wife the idea to make it a ring to propose with came to me. I did some research and found some symbols that would be meaningful for both of us. The tree of life symbol is used to suggest eternal families. Our initials are carved on the trunk of the tree because that is something some people do when they are in love. There are many things the circle in a square represent. I used cedar wood and did all the carving with a pocket knife. After she accepted the proposal we took the wood ring to David Fadel and I worked closely with him to get a ring that looked as close as possible to the one that I had carved. We are very happy with his work. You can find his website at http://www.fadelsfinejewelry.com/

My brother and I built this lemonade stand. This was a prop for his wedding. We built a frame with new wood, then screwed barn wood to the frame. We had to use a bit of magic to make everything line up and sit flat.
